If you’re found sabotaging the system, I’ll sack you – Energy Minister warns admin officers

Energy Minister John Jinapor has issued a warning to energy sector officials. He stated that anyone underperforming or sabotaging the system will be dismissed.

During a briefing on May 15, he spoke with the Energy Committee of Parliament and cabinet members. He emphasized that he would take swift action against non-performing officials, regardless of their rank.

"I'm serious about this," he said. "If any administrative officer is not following procedures or is lazy, you will be sacked."

He continued, "If I don’t sack you, I’ll be sacked myself." He urged the Chairman and Committee members to work together.

The Minister also discussed the financial challenges in the sector. He revealed that the government has inherited over GH¢3 billion in debt owed to power generation companies.

Previously, the total sector debt was around GH₵80 billion. The recent appreciation of the local currency has helped reduce this debt burden. Most of it is in foreign currencies, especially US dollars.
