A joint operation by Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officers at the Akanu Sector Command and Ghana Revenue Authority-Customs Division has intercepted a truck loaded with smuggled cocoa beans en route to Togo.
Acting on intelligence, the officers stopped the truck, registered AS 2103-W, at the Ave-Havi border.
A search uncovered 1,115 gallons stuffed with cocoa beans.
The truck’s driver, Ibrahim Fatawu, is currently assisting with investigations.
According to a statement signed by Assistant Commissioner of Immigration Michael Amoako-Atta, the confiscated cocoa has been handed over to COCOBOD, and the vehicle impounded.
The GIS has warned against smuggling, citing its adverse impact on Ghana’s economy, and commended border communities for their support in safeguarding national resources.
