Improve working conditions to curb brain drain – TUC tells govt

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has called on the government to act quickly. They want to improve working conditions for Ghanaians. The TUC warns that skilled workers are leaving for Europe and North America. This trend threatens national development.

At a labour forum in Accra on April 25, Dr. Kwabena Otto spoke for the TUC. He is the Deputy Secretary-General of the organization. He emphasized that better wages and improved labor standards are crucial. These changes would help retain talent in Ghana.

Dr. Otto noted that improving worker conditions can boost productivity and economic stability. He suggested raising the minimum wage to help workers escape poverty.

He explained the difference between living wage and minimum wage. The minimum wage focuses on individual workers, while living wage considers families too. "What I earn should support my family, not just myself," he said.
