Improved business climate will boost US investment in Ghana – Ambassador Palmer

The United States Ambassador to Ghana, Virginia Palmer, has stressed the need to improve Ghana’s business environment. This is crucial for local businesses and attracting more American investment.

In an interview on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, Ambassador Palmer praised President John Dramani Mahama. She noted his commitment to making business climate reform a top priority.

“Improving the business climate helps Ghanaian exporters and companies,” she said. “It also encourages US investment in Ghana.” She expressed satisfaction with President Mahama's focus on this issue.

Ambassador Palmer pointed out specific areas that need attention. These include reforms at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), better access to credit, and contract enforcement. She also mentioned the importance of clearing government arrears.

These barriers must be addressed for Ghana to attract international investors. “Improvements in these areas will make investing more attractive,” she stated. She added that timely payments are vital for small Ghanaian companies' survival.
