“In future, if your child is defiled and you are poor, you are finished” – Stephen Amoah

Stephen Amoah, a Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso Constituency, has issued a warning. He said that if a poor child is defiled in the future, their family will be finished.

Amoah criticized those responsible for ensuring justice. He noted that they are being suspended instead of helping victims.

He urged market women to return home early after selling. He emphasized that there is no law protecting them.

At the 'Save the Judiciary' demonstration, he stated, “The Constitution is no longer working.” He explained that without functioning police and courts, people are unprotected.

He advised mothers to rush home after market hours. “If anything happens to you, there is no law to protect you,” he added.

Amoah warned that if a child is defiled in the future, poverty will lead to despair. “In this country, if you are robbed, you cannot speak out,” he said.

He expressed concern about those meant to ensure justice facing reproach from the government.

Some Ghanaians reacted strongly to his statements. One person said it would make the country "ungovernable." Another questioned how he could protest if the Constitution was truly broken.

Another user pointed out past failures of officials and asked for peace instead of protests. A different commenter argued that his ability to protest shows the Constitution still functions.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other political parties are demonstrating today against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. They claim her suspension by President John Dramani Mahama is dangerous interference in the judiciary.

The NPP's demonstration follows Mahama's decision based on a prima facie case against Torkornoo determined by the Council of State. The President formed a committee under Article 146(6) of the Constitution to investigate petitions related to her suspension.
