The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has revealed that the lack of adequate cable ladders significantly hampered their response to the recent fire incident at Adum in Kumasi. The blaze, which erupted in a building housing several shops, posed serious challenges for firefighters attempting to access higher floors where flames were spreading.
During the firefighting operation, officials noted that the absence of sufficient equipment delayed their efforts and led to more extensive damage than could have been prevented. The fire service emphasized the importance of proper resources and infrastructure in effectively handling such emergencies, highlighting that better preparedness could mitigate similar incidents in the future.
In light of these challenges, GNFS is calling for improved investment in firefighting equipment to enhance operational efficiency. They aim to ensure that they are better equipped for rapid responses during emergencies, ultimately reducing risks and safeguarding lives and property within communities.
