Fire Destroys Maaha Beach Resort and Vision Beach
A fire severely damaged the Maaha Beach Resort in Ellembelle District. The blaze spread from a neighboring resort on May 28. It started around 7 PM in the kitchen of Vision Beach.
The fire destroyed several beachfront structures before firefighters controlled it. An eyewitness reported that the nearest fire tender struggled to extinguish the flames. This was due to the nature of the fire and chemicals used for firefighting.
Ellembelle District Fire Commander DO2 Mark Hamilton provided an update. He stated that 18 rooms at Maaha Beach Resort were destroyed. Additionally, 15 rooms at Vision Beach were affected, but there were no casualties.
Hamilton confirmed that all affected rooms were unoccupied at the time. He also mentioned that Maaha Beach is still operational after the incident.
Regarding response times, Hamilton said they arrived five minutes after receiving the call. The call came in at 7:59 PM, and they reached the scene by 8:04 PM. He noted that there was no issue with their fire tender from Ghana Gas, which arrived in under four minutes.
