Inter-Agency Data Pricing Committee presents report; work being done to reduce data – Sam George

Communications Minister Sam Nartey George announced that the Inter-Agency Data Pricing Committee has completed its report. The committee was given 14 days to create a roadmap for reducing data costs in Ghana. They finished their work in just 13 days.

This report will guide efforts to lower data prices. Sam George stated that the ministry is engaging with all stakeholders. This engagement aims to ensure a fact-driven approach to calls for cheaper data.

He believes that data can and should be more affordable. That’s why he established the pricing committee with a 14-day mandate. Their report includes short-term and medium-term policy plans.

The regulator is working with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) on these short-term measures. Improving service quality is also a priority, which led him to grant MTN tech neutrality and additional spectrum.

On social media, the Minister expressed his commitment to making data cheaper in Ghana. He also aims to enhance the quality of services available to citizens.

Comprehensive work is ongoing with all stakeholders for this initiative. The goal is to have a fact-based foundation for reducing data prices. As Minister, he remains dedicated to improving service quality and pricing for Ghanaians.
