Interior Minister directs immediate transfer of police commanders in mining areas

Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has given a new directive. He instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to reassign all police commanders in mining areas.

This change is effective immediately. The goal is to replace officers who have been in these positions for too long. They have not effectively addressed illegal mining activities.

Muntaka described this decision as part of tougher measures against galamsey operations. Commanders in mining areas will be moved to non-mining locations. New officers will take over their duties.

These new appointees have three months to show results. If they do not perform, they will also be reassigned.

During a meeting with Imams and Zongo Chiefs in Kumasi, Muntaka emphasized his commitment to this directive. He acknowledged the pressure on the IGP but remains firm.

“I have ordered the IGP to transfer all police commanders in mining areas,” he said. “The new ones will be transferred after three months if they don’t perform.”

He added, “We will keep making changes until we see results.”
