The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, reaffirmed the government's commitment to fighting illegal drug use and trafficking. This is especially important in Zongo communities.
During a meeting with Zongo Chiefs and Muslim leaders at Abossey Okai New Zongo in Accra, he emphasized law enforcement's critical role. He warned that anyone involved in drug activities will face severe legal consequences.
“The abuse and trafficking of illegal drugs destroys lives,” he said. It also prevents individuals from accessing government opportunities. He urged the youth to avoid drugs and take advantage of development initiatives.
Alhaji Muntaka highlighted the social and economic impacts of drug use. He called on community members to be vigilant and proactive. Chiefs, Imams, and leaders should report suspicious wealth and expose criminal activity.
“No one will be spared,” he stated about drug-related offences. The Minister stressed collective responsibility in upholding the law. He advised against mob justice and encouraged reporting wrongdoers to authorities.
Muntaka appealed directly to the youth to support government efforts for better livelihoods. He urged them to uphold Islamic values and protect their communities' integrity.
The Chief of Zongo in Accra, Yaaya Amisu Baako, appreciated the Minister’s visit. He pledged support from traditional and religious leaders in addressing the drug issue. This engagement calls for collaboration among stakeholders for safer communities.
