The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced a new curfew. This curfew applies to Binduri Township and nearby areas in the Upper East Region.
The curfew will now run from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. It takes effect immediately.
This decision follows advice from the Upper East Regional Security Council. It aims to address rising tensions and promote peace.
In a press statement on April 13, 2025, the Minister urged calm. He encouraged residents to focus on peacebuilding efforts.
The government calls on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, and Youth to exercise restraint. They should use non-violent means to ensure peace in the area.
To enhance security, there is a total ban on arms and ammunition. Anyone found with weapons will be arrested and prosecuted.
Additionally, movement of motorbikes, tricycles, and ‘aboboyaa’ is banned for everyone. There is also a restriction on men wearing smocks due to past violence links.
The statement emphasized that anyone violating these bans will face arrest and prosecution.
