**Interior Minister Proposes New Fuel Tax for Fire Service Support**
Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has proposed a new tax on fuel. This tax aims to help fund the Ghana National Fire Service. He suggested a rate of 10 pesewas per litre of fuel purchased.
Mubarak made this proposal during his visit to Adum in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. The visit followed challenges faced by the fire service during a recent fire incident.
He stated, "All of us need to make a contribution… let’s dedicate just 10 pesewas per litre, just for fire." This would create a dedicated fund for fire service support.
Muntaka was accompanied by Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene and NADMO's Director-General. He emphasized the importance of assessing the damage and engaging with affected traders.
The minister noted the emotional toll on those impacted by the fire. He aimed to reassure them of government support during this difficult time.
Donations were provided to those affected through NADMO and the Ministry of Interior. Relief items included 1,500 bags of rice, 800 boxes of cooking oil, and 1,000 boxes of soap.
