Interior Minister supports Sabon Zango Youth Initiative Against Illicit Drugs

Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, the Minister of Interior, visited Sabon Zango. He assured the youth of government support against drug trade and abuse.

He warned them not to violate rights or damage property. “Don’t take the laws into your hands,” he advised. He emphasized handing over suspects to the police.

During his visit to Chief Alhaji Yahya Hamisu Baako, he stated that community involvement is crucial. “The community can help security forces with intelligence,” he said.

He noted that identifying drug dealers is difficult for police. However, locals know who they are. When the community stands together, they can succeed in stopping drugs.

Mubarak hopes this youth-led campaign will inspire other communities. He warned that drugs threaten young people's futures and aspirations.

To empower anti-drug campaigners, he pledged to absorb about 15 into security services. He also donated GHS20,000 to support their initiative.

The community chief shared that mothers often express concern about their children’s drug use. This prompted him to mobilize youth against the issue.

Since January, the youth have led the “Zango Against Drugs” campaign. Their efforts aim to eliminate illicit drugs harming young people’s futures.

The campaign includes raising awareness, raiding drug dens, arresting peddlers, and confiscating drugs.
