The Ministry of Interior has renewed the curfew on Walewale and surrounding areas, maintaining the 6:00 am to 6:00 pm restriction based on advice from the North East Regional Security Council.
The curfew follows a surge in violent attacks along the Walewale-Wulugu stretch of the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, where gunmen have killed at least 13 travelers, including an infant, and torched three buses between February 11 and February 15.
Despite resistance from residents who cite military brutality concerns, Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has extended the curfew, effective February 22, 2025.
Authorities urge compliance as security forces work to restore safety in the troubled region.
