President John Dramani Mahama has urged Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to launch immediate investigations into the deaths of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
In a statement issued on January 10, Mahama, through his Executive Secretary, Calistus Mahama, emphasized the need for accountability to uphold Ghana’s democracy.
The President proposed forming a special Investigative Taskforce under the CID to focus on these killings. He also called for collaboration with eyewitnesses, victims’ families, and the use of forensic evidence to ensure thorough investigations.
Additionally, Mahama asked the IGP to review the conduct of security personnel deployed at the polling stations, stressing the importance of transparency in addressing these tragic incidents.
