Involve grassroots in MMDCE appointments to reduce tension – Agorhom

Divine Otoo Agorhom is the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NPP. He has proposed a grassroots approach for selecting MMDCEs. He believes internal party vetting should happen before nominations go to the President.

His proposal comes after protests by NDC supporters in various districts. These protests occurred when some MMDCE nominations were publicly rejected.

On Channel One Newsroom, Agorhom emphasized party ownership in the selection process. He said involving constituency-level structures would increase acceptance of appointees. This approach could also reduce political tension.

Agorhom suggested that applicants should first seek endorsement from their constituencies. “The party produces the government,” he stated. Constituency parties can assess candidates based on their contributions and relationships within the community.

He explained that the process should start at the constituency level, then move to the region. The regional committee would filter candidates before sending them to the national committee for further shortlisting. This way, all shortlisted candidates would have grassroots support.

Agorhom also called for long-term reforms to elect MMDCEs instead of appointing them. “Until we reach that point, this should be our procedure,” he added.

In related news, Talensi NDC supporters have rejected a DCE nominee and are demanding his removal.
