Political analyst Emmanuel Kotin has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He believes they are unnecessarily politicizing the case of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi. Wontumi is reportedly wanted by state authorities.
In a commentary on Morning Starr with Joshua Kodjo Mensah, Kotin questioned why the ruling party is treating this as a partisan issue. He argued that due process should be allowed to take its course.
“How can an individual be wanted for an alleged crime and it becomes an NPP problem?” he asked. He also wondered if the NPP was complicit in Wontumi's alleged actions.
Kotin criticized the NPP for damaging Ghana’s democratic image internationally. “Our democracy has come very far,” he said. He noted that such issues do not occur in civilized societies.
He expressed sadness over how international media portrays Ghana due to the NPP's actions. Kotin cited former President Donald Trump's situation in the United States as a comparison.
“When Trump was investigated, his residence was searched,” he pointed out. He questioned where Ghana is learning these behaviors from and warned against emboldening criminals under party colors.
Kotin expressed concern about party loyalty undermining state institutions and law enforcement. “Do you know the intelligence they are sitting on?” he asked rhetorically.
He urged the NPP to reflect on their actions and consider making changes. “NPP needs some self-reflection,” he concluded, emphasizing the need for boldness moving forward.
