The National Identification Authority (NIA) has made an important announcement. They will clear the backlog of unissued Ghana Cards. They will also start new registrations in the Greater Accra Region.
Starting Monday, April 7, all District Offices in the region will issue cards. This applies to Ghanaians who applied between June 2023 and now but haven't received their cards.
This move is expected to help many people facing delays. The Ghana Card is essential for accessing government services and financial transactions.
Applicants can return to the District Office where they registered to collect their cards.
The NIA encourages all Ghanaians aged 15 and above to register for the Ghana Card. Starting April 7, they can visit any NIA District Office in Greater Accra for registration.
Registration is free of charge, according to the NIA. They have warned that no fees should be paid for card issuance or first-time registration.
The public should report any NIA staff who ask for money for these services. However, replacement cards and updates to personal records will still require a fee as before.
