It’s our turn – NDC members say as they take over Protected Forest Reserves to mine illegally

Erastus Asare is a prominent advocate against illegal mining in Ghana. He is upset with some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). They are taking over protected forest reserves.

Asare is concerned that they believe it’s their turn to exploit resources. He shared his frustrations in a Facebook post about illegal mining activities. He stated, “The President CANNOT WATCH ON for this to happen!!”

He has repeatedly informed the authorities, including the sector ministry. However, he feels there is very little urgency from them.

Asare questions how party members can claim rights to illegal activities. He highlights that galamsey occurs in protected forest reserves by known party affiliates. They act as if they are entitled because they say it’s their turn.

Despite notifying authorities, little action is taken. He shared images showing current mining in the Tano Nimri forest reserve and pollution of the Tano River.

Asare asks how people with connections can illegally enter protected forests. This degradation leaves citizens with damaged lands and resources stolen.

He wonders why authorities struggle to stop these environmental crimes. The only explanation he sees involves people close to those in power.
