DVLA Chief Executive Julius Neequaye Kotey has expressed shock over a contract that has left the Authority with a heavy financial burden.
Speaking on TV3, he revealed that an unnamed company was contracted for system monitoring services, yet its actual role remains unclear.
Under the agreement, the Ministry of Finance was supposed to pay GHC50 million annually, but after three years of non-payment, the DVLA now faces a GHC160 million liability.
Signed in 2023, the contract took effect on January 1, forcing the Authority to make payments.
Kotey has referred the issue to the sector minister for scrutiny, raising concerns over discrepancies in the deal, which appears to operate separately from the DVLA’s existing roadworthiness services.
