Thaddeus Sory is a well-known private lawyer. He represents one of the petitioners seeking the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. Recently, he dismissed allegations made by Alfred Ababio Kumi. Kumi called for the dissolution of the committee investigating the Chief Justice.
Sory labeled Kumi's claims as a "monstrous lie." Kumi, a Ghanaian citizen, petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to dissolve the committee. He argued that committee members undermine the integrity of the inquiry.
Kumi alleged that Justices Gabriel Pwamang and Samuel Adibu-Asiedu met with Sory on May 15. This meeting took place at Santoku Restaurant and included Supreme Court Justice Yonni Kulendi. Kumi claimed they were overheard discussing matters related to the petition.
He stated that this meeting damaged public confidence in the process. Kumi also noted that Justice Pwamang is interested in becoming Chief Justice. He mentioned that Justice Adibu-Asiedu has lobbied for this position as well.
Kumi described the entire process as a potential sham. He urged President Mahama to act to protect constitutional credibility. In response, Sory posted on Facebook denying any such meeting occurred.
He emphasized that it is easy to fact-check these claims. On X, he wrote, “It is a monstrous lie. No such meeting took place.”
The probe began on May 15, 2025, after Torkornoo was suspended from office for investigations. Two prominent lawyers affiliated with the NDC represent the petitioners: Tsatsu Tsikata and Thaddeus Sory. Lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor also represents another petitioner.
During their first in-camera session, Tsikata and Sory identified themselves as lawyers for Shining Stars of Ghana, one of three petitioners. Oliver Barker-Vormawor represented Daniel Ofori while ACP Ayamga Yakubu Akolgo represented himself as a petitioner.
