“It is about time good men speak” — Dame justifies role as Torkornoo’s lawyer

Former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has denied conflict of interest allegations. He is representing suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo in a Supreme Court case.

On May 21, the Chief Justice filed a suit. She seeks an injunction to stop a committee investigating her removal from office. She also wants Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu to be restrained from participating due to concerns about their impartiality.

Mr. Dame spoke on Joy News on May 21, 2025. He stated he acted within the law and rejected any claims of wrongdoing.

He emphasized the need for good men to stand up for righteousness. He claimed he has always supported the judiciary since his appointment. He believes it is important to correct misleading public narratives.

The writ filed by Mr. Dame names several defendants: Justices Pwamang and Adibu-Asiedu, former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo, Major Flora Bazwaanura Dalugo, and Professor James Sefah Dzisah.

Justice Torkornoo seeks an order to prevent the committee from proceeding with its inquiry into three petitions for her removal. She was suspended by President John Dramani Mahama under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution while awaiting the case's outcome.
