Kwamina Asomaning is the President of the Ghana Association of Banks. He advocates for better ethical training in banking. He believes mandatory programs are needed to combat fraud and unethical behavior.
In an interview on PM Express Business Edition, he discussed trust in banking. He highlighted the serious consequences of financial misconduct. “What we sell as banks is trust,” he stated.
Asomaning noted that banking involves money, which can tempt dishonesty. He expressed concern over rising cases of financial misconduct. This affects institutions, employees, and shareholders negatively.
“It’s embarrassing when we breach the trust of our customers,” he said. He compared it to putting one’s hand in a cookie jar.
He also referenced a biblical saying about greed. “The love of money is the root of all evil,” he explained. This environment can reveal people's worst traits.
Unfortunately, some colleagues struggle to resist large sums of money.
