Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, the Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has issued a warning to employers. He stated that not paying social security contributions is illegal. This can lead to serious legal consequences.
During an interview on JoyNews AM Show, Dr. Pelpuo highlighted the importance of these contributions. He said, "It is illegal not to pay someone’s social security contributions." These payments are crucial for workers' future security during retirement or illness.
He mentioned that he recently learned about unpaid contributions. "We observed a case where an employer failed to make required payments," he explained. The employer was instructed to settle the outstanding amounts and has now complied.
Dr. Pelpuo emphasized that employers who neglect their obligations face serious repercussions. "If employers fail to make these payments, they invite legal action," he warned.
He assured that the government will take firm action to protect workers. The goal is to ensure employers meet their legal obligations and secure employees' financial futures.
