It’s not about party, it’s about Ghana – Adu-Amankwah condemns irresponsible rhetoric

Susan Adu-Amankwah has warned public figures against politicizing sensitive national issues. This is especially true for matters affecting Ghana's international image.

Speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile, she addressed political actors. She reminded them that in international spaces, partisan identities disappear. What remains is a shared national identity.

“Sometimes people forget that when we go out there, it doesn’t matter whether you are NDC, NPP, or independent — you are Ghanaian,” she stated.

Her comments came after public outcry over allegations from an MP. The MP claimed suspicious aircraft were carrying drugs and money. Although she did not name the MP, Adu-Amankwah stressed that unsubstantiated claims can cause harm.

“When things go out into the public and into the world, it’s about you being Ghanaian,” she explained. “They don’t profile us according to our political parties. They profile us according to our color and country of origin.”

She urged responsible public allegations and cautioned against using them as political tools. “When you go out there thinking you are doing it against your party or for your party...you’re doing it against all of us,” she said.

Adu-Amankwah also expressed concern about drug issues in Ghana. She specifically mentioned the impact of narcotics like "Red" on youth.

“Some of us feel that a lot of drug issues are already a problem in this country,” she noted. “We see the devastation Red has caused for young people.”

While acknowledging the need for vigilance, she emphasized substantiating claims before making them public. “Any suspicion is valid — but we expect more than just speculation,” she said. “That’s not what well-meaning citizens do.”
