It’s only in Africa where politicians who steal from the people are protected by the people – Netizen on Wontumi’s arrest

Albert Nat Hyde, known as Bongo Ideas, reacted to NPP supporters gathering at the EOCO office. This happened after the arrest of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also called Chairman Wontumi. He is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Bongo Ideas stated that only in Africa do politicians who steal get protected by their people. He mentioned that Wontumi mined in a forest reserve and should face legal consequences if guilty.

In a post on X, Bongo Ideas wrote: “It’s only in Africa where the politician who steals from the people are protected by the same people. Chairman Wontumi mines in forest reserve and if found culpable should face the law. No party colour, no shouting, no burning of tyres will change that!”

Meanwhile, Wontumi's lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, shared that his client fell ill during questioning by EOCO in Accra. He did not disclose where Wontumi was receiving treatment.

Kubi said, “I know where he is but I am not going to disclose the hospital. My client has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment.” He added that they had not finished interrogating him yet.

Wontumi was arrested by EOCO after visiting the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters on May 27. EOCO operatives intercepted him as he left.

EOCO has not released an official statement regarding Wontumi's arrest. The specifics of the investigation remain unclear, and his legal team has not commented further on this matter.
