Former Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul has acknowledged the NPP government’s efforts to stabilize Bawku during its tenure, expressing regret over its inability to achieve lasting peace.

Speaking to Joy News, he highlighted measures like deploying security forces, engaging stakeholders, and collaborating with traditional leaders.

Despite these actions, a permanent resolution to the long-standing Kusasi-Mamprusi conflict remained elusive.

Nitiwul emphasized the importance of Bawku’s peace on the national agenda, citing former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s expression of regret in his final State of the Nation Address.

He called on future administrations to build trust among the people to address the issue effectively.

The conflict, rooted in historical and chieftaincy disputes, has claimed numerous lives, including 41 in recent clashes, underscoring the urgent need for sustainable peace.
