It’s wrong for NPP to assume fight to protect CJ - Inusah Fuseini

Inusah Fuseini, a former MP for Tamale Central, has criticized the NPP. He claims they are politicizing legal issues regarding Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo's potential removal.

On JoyNews' Newsfile, he said the NPP's defense of Torkornoo suggests she is aligned with them. This perception could harm public confidence in the judiciary’s independence.

Fuseini stated, “It is totally wrong for a political party to protect the Chief Justice.” He worries that NPP involvement undermines judicial integrity and politicizes an impartial process.

He noted that while removing a Chief Justice for misconduct is valid, political parties should limit their roles. He recalled a similar petition against Torkornoo in 2024 and emphasized that scrutiny of her office is necessary.

“What the NPP is doing currently suggests that the Chief Justice favors them,” he said. “They are doing Madam a disservice. I don’t understand why the NPP is so jumpy.”

He also criticized the party for using legal surrogates to challenge presidential actions in court. He pointed out that those filing lawsuits against presidential actions are linked to the NPP.

“It’s becoming hard to discuss the Chief Justice because she represents Ghana,” he stated. “If the NPP doesn’t realize they are creating problems, I’m telling them they are.”
