‘It was embarrassing’ - Former Builsa North MP on #SaveTheJudiciary demo

Timothy Ataboadey Awontirim, a former MP for Builsa North, criticized the NPP protest. He is also a member of the NDC's Communications Team.

On May 6, 2025, he spoke on the Prime Morning Show. He called the demonstration an embarrassment. He believes it stemmed from ignorance of constitutional content.

“The NPP do not know the constitution,” he stated. “What they did yesterday was an embarrassment.”

He noted that Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin fumbled while presenting a petition to the Supreme Court. Mr. Awontirim claimed that “not one step has been missed in the constitution.”

He accused the NPP of hypocrisy. They boycotted drafting the 1992 constitution but now act as democracy experts.

Mr. Awontirim highlighted how the NPP undermined state institutions while in power. They caused chaos and now preach about democracy, he said.
