The JJ Rawlings Foundation urges Ghanaians to uphold key principles. These include discipline, transparency, and commitment to duty. This call comes as the country marks the 46th anniversary of the June 4, 1979 uprising. This event is a significant moment in Ghana’s political history.
In a statement about the uprising, the Foundation reflected on its causes. These included rampant corruption, economic hardship, and social injustice. They emphasized that Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings' legacy must be preserved. This can be done through renewed dedication to probity and accountability.
The Foundation quoted Rawlings’ 2018 address about June 4. They described it as “a force that defies negativity.” They urged Ghanaians to remember those who sacrificed their lives for justice.
To sustain Rawlings’ legacy, the Foundation highlighted ongoing initiatives. These include environmental sustainability projects through school tree planting and exhibitions on Ghana’s revolutionary history. They also support boxing, one of Rawlings’ passions.
Additionally, they announced plans for public events in 2025. This will commemorate the 5th anniversary of the former president’s passing.
“Failure is not an option,” affirmed the Foundation. They encourage all citizens to pursue ideals guiding AFRC, PNDC, and NDC for over four decades.
