Veteran Ghanaian actor Van Vicker praised President John Dramani Mahama. He commended the appreciation of the cedi against the dollar.
Van Vicker believes it would be great if the cedi returns to its previous value. He encouraged Ghanaians to recognize the President for this achievement.
In a Facebook post, he congratulated President Mahama on the cedi's strength in the world market. He wrote, “Ayekoo.”
He noted that the cedi is now about GHC 11 to $1. Just months ago, it was around GHC 17 to $1.
Van Vicker emphasized that his statement is not political. He wants to acknowledge a job well done and give credit where it's due.
He described the current cedi situation as remarkable for Ghana. He expressed optimism about its sustainability and hopes for further improvement.
Meanwhile, musician Kuami Eugene has asked President Mahama to slow down the cedi's appreciation. He said this strong performance affects his dollar reserves.
On social media, he wrote, “We beg Pres. John Mahama for slow down small.” He added that he feels both happy and sad about the situation.
President Mahama responded to concerns about extreme currency fluctuations. Some people predict that the cedi could reach GHS 1 to $1, which he called extreme.
He warned that such a scenario could collapse Ghana’s export sector. The Bank of Ghana is monitoring the situation closely.
Mahama reassured citizens not to panic if they haven't exchanged their dollars yet. He stated that further interventions may occur if necessary to maintain stability in currency values.
