JSI demands swift police, EOCO action over assault on JoyNews’ Latif Iddrisu

Journalists Sanctuary International (JSI) has condemned the assault on JoyNews journalist Latif Iddrisu. The attack was carried out by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Accra.

This incident happened during a protest. The protest was about the arrest of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi.

In a statement, JSI urged the Ghana Police Service and EOCO to investigate quickly. They called for justice for the assaulted journalist.

JSI also requested that state security agencies protect Iddrisu due to safety threats.

The organization stated that this act violates journalists' rights and harms press freedom. It also affects the public's right to information.

JSI emphasized that disagreements with journalists should be resolved legally or editorially. Violence and threats are not acceptable solutions.
