Japan backs Mahama’s Volivo Bridge dream under $10bn 'Big Push' plan

Japan has confirmed its support for the Volivo Bridge project. This bridge is vital for Ghana’s Eastern Corridor road network.

Miyazaki Katsura, from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), met with President John Dramani Mahama on June 3. He assured the President of Japan's commitment to financing the bridge.

The Volivo Bridge is part of Mahama’s $10 billion “Big Push” infrastructure plan. This plan aims to invest $2 billion each year for five years in roads, bridges, education, and healthcare.

Katsura expressed happiness that the bridge project is included in this initiative. He mentioned that JICA will facilitate talks with the Japanese government.

A technical team will soon visit Ghana to assess funding needs for the project.

President Mahama secured Japan's support during a previous term while visiting Tokyo. He plans to attend the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) in August. There, he aims to finalize funding discussions for the bridge project.
