Japan promises to support Volivo bridge project; invites Mahama to TICAD

Japan has confirmed its strong interest in financing a bridge over Volta Lake. This bridge is located at Volivo and is part of Ghana's Eastern Corridor road project.

Miyazaki Katsura, Senior Executive Vice President of JICA, shared this commitment with President John Mahama during a visit on Tuesday.

The proposed Volivo Bridge will complete the important Eastern Corridor road. This project is part of President Mahama's $10 billion "Big Push" initiative. The initiative aims to upgrade Ghana’s infrastructure significantly.

The Big Push plan includes an investment of $2 billion each year for five years. It focuses on critical sectors like roads, bridges, education, and healthcare.

Katsura expressed happiness that the Volivo Bridge project is included in the Big Push initiative. He assured President Mahama that JICA would facilitate further discussions with Japan's government.

He also mentioned that a technical team would come to Ghana. They will assess the additional funding needed for the project.

Mr. Mahama had previously secured Japan’s commitment to fund this project during his last term in Tokyo.

Additionally, he accepted an invitation to attend the 9th TICAD in August. He plans to engage with the Japanese government about securing funding for construction.
