Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has called for a committee. This three-member group will investigate the disappearance of ECG containers at Tema Port.
The committee's main task is to trace the serial numbers of the missing containers. They will determine where these containers went and who is responsible.
Jinapor stated, “The primary responsibility of the committee would be to track the serial numbers.” He emphasized that valuable assets, like electricity cables, should not be auctioned or misused. Instead, he suggested that the state should control these resources for rural electrification projects.
He added, “By tracing these serial numbers, we aim to find each container's final destination.” The goal is also to identify all parties involved in their disappearance.
Beyond tracking, Jinapor highlighted the need for a structured payment plan. This plan would allow the government to use recovered items for electrification efforts. It would reduce the need for new contracts.
The minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to resolving this issue. He aims to implement reforms in the energy sector to prevent future occurrences.
Additionally, he is seeking legal clarification from the Attorney General. This clarification will address ownership and autonomy issues for state-owned enterprises like ECG in such situations.
