John Jinapor engages CSOs in energy sector

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, is worried about Ghana's rising energy sector debt. He warns that urgent action is needed to prevent a collapse.

Mr. Jinapor noted that accumulating liabilities threaten the sector's sustainability. He called for drastic measures to address this financial crisis.

During a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Accra, he revealed that total liabilities have reached GH¢80 billion. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) alone accounts for over GH¢60 billion of this debt. He described this situation as unsustainable and requiring immediate intervention.

The Minister urged stakeholders to find innovative solutions to these financial difficulties. He highlighted inadequate financing as a major issue contributing to the crisis. Mr. Jinapor called on CSOs to work with the government on sustainable solutions.

He reassured CSOs of the government's commitment to revitalising the energy sector for all Ghanaians. The government aims to implement policies and reforms for long-term viability and efficiency in the sector.
