3FM's Johnnie Hughes criticized doctors at Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). He disagreed with their demand for apologies from government officials. This demand followed a ministerial visit to the hospital.
Hughes questioned their reasoning. He asked, “What are the doctors expecting an apology for?” The minister only pointed out the hospital’s problems. He noted that these issues should have been addressed earlier, especially since the hospital received financial support.
Hughes also commented on a doctor's remark about a deceased patient. He found the doctor’s dismissive attitude unacceptable. “To suggest that the death is being blown out of proportion is disrespectful,” he said.
He emphasized that this attitude ignores the family's emotional and financial loss. Hughes expressed disbelief over such comments from medical professionals.
The veteran journalist highlighted broader issues in healthcare. He stated that doctors in Ghana often neglect patient care. He shared an experience where a doctor sent patients away after their shift ended. “Patients are treated like second-class citizens,” he remarked during his show on 3FM.
Hughes urged the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to clarify its position. He called for them to stop prioritizing ego over patient care.
He concluded by urging both the government and healthcare professionals to address ongoing issues in the system. “It’s time for change,” he asserted.
