Dr. Joseph Yamin, National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and chair of the asset retrieval taskforce, has called on the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to produce documentation proving ownership of gold bars intercepted at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
On December 17, 2024, police seized 17 boxes of bullion bars allegedly marked for export to Dubai.
The Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) defended the consignment as part of BoG’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP).
However, Yamin claimed his team, alongside other state agencies, intercepted the shipment due to irregularities and lack of proper documentation.
He accused PMMC and BoG officers of providing conflicting accounts about the gold’s weight and origin, suggesting a lack of transparency.
Yamin also alleged prior transactions involving gold and cash exports after the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) electoral defeat.
