Journalists from JoyNews, TV3, GH-One Grab ‘Juicy’ Govt Jobs; Others Lobby Hard

The list of journalists taking government jobs in Ghana has grown. This trend started with the John Mahama Administration.

Lantam Papanko from GhOne TV is now the Corporate Affairs Manager at Ghana Publishing Company.

Paa Kwasi Asare, a BBC Komla Dumor Award winner, joined the Bank of Ghana’s Communications Department. He works there since the NDC took power.

Raymond Acquah was appointed as a technical advisor on media and communication by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson. He has locked his social media profiles amid investigations.

Emefa Apawu from Joy News is now the Corporate Affairs Manager at Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC).

Reports indicate that more journalists are awaiting appointment letters at various agencies like GNPC and NPRA.

During the Akufo-Addo administration, many journalists received lucrative jobs and faced criticism. They were accused of supporting the government while claiming neutrality.

Kwabena Yeboah, a sports journalist, was appointed to the Free Zones Authority board under Akufo-Addo. He later joined the board of Ghana Airport Company.

Paul Adom Otchere served as Board Chairman during this time. Kwame Sefa Kayi was also appointed to the National Petroleum Authority Board.

Fiifi Boafo left Oman FM for a role at Ghana COCOBOD in 2017. Oman FM granted him leave to take up this position.

Malik Daabu worked at Multimedia Joy FM before joining the Ghana Maritime Authority as head of Public Relations. He was previously an editor and political analyst at Joy FM.

Kwabena Kwakye, who reported for Oman FM, joined the board of GNPC in 2017. He hosted a popular political talk show called Boiling Point on Oman FM.

Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo served as a columnist and Director of Newspapers for Graphic Communications Group before becoming a Presidential staffer and joining NMC’s Board.

Kwaku Sakyi Addo was appointed Chairman of the National Communications Authority by Akufo-Addo.

Egbert Faibille, once a journalist, became CEO of the Petroleum Commission in April 2017 after serving as Chief Executive Officer of National Petroleum Commission.
