Journalists undergo training in mining governance, human rights

A one-day workshop for journalists on mining governance and human rights has concluded.

The event emphasized the need for safe environmental practices.

It was organized by The Centre for Public Interest Law (CEPIL). They partnered with stakeholders like WA­CAM and Oxfam International.

Participants learned how to report on human rights violations and governance issues.

The focus was on environmental challenges linked to large-scale mining operations. This is especially relevant for communities affected by the Ahafo and Akyem projects run by Newmont Ghana Gold Limited.

A documentary screening sparked discussions about land dispossession, pollution, and socio-economic hardships caused by mining.
