JoyNews Impact Makers awardee promoted to Municipal Director of Health Services at Tano South

Dr. Joel Duah Afi has been promoted to Municipal Director of Health Services. He works at the Tano South Municipal Health Directorate. This is a significant step in his mission to improve rural healthcare.

Dr. Afi's journey is driven by passion and purpose. He recently completed specialist training in Family Medicine at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. His new role combines clinical expertise with public health leadership.

Since he took charge in September 2024, Dr. Afi has led transformative initiatives. These include maternal and child health programs, disease prevention strategies, and community outreach projects. His efforts have greatly improved health outcomes in the municipality.

In 2019, Dr. Afi was recognized as a Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumnus by the U.S. Embassy in Ghana. He won the 2024 Leadership Impact Award for his dedication to underserved populations.

His groundbreaking projects include the Abusua Community Medical Center and a Mobile Medical Outreach Initiative with Hope For GH. Under his leadership, Tano South immunized over 16,000 children against polio.

He also expanded community health education and improved maternal healthcare delivery. Thousands have received free consultations, screenings, and essential medical care through his programs.

Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Afi said achieving this specialization is a commitment to those he serves. He aims to integrate Family Medicine expertise with public health leadership to bridge healthcare gaps.

As Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Afi plans more impactful healthcare advancements and policy reforms. He aims to position Tano South as a model for rural healthcare excellence in Ghana.
