Security Analyst Prof. Kwesi Aning has described the jubilant reactions of police officers after the appointment of IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as an unintended validation of former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare’s impact.
He noted that Dampare’s leadership disrupted entrenched corruption and favoritism, reshaping the Ghana Police Service with strict discipline and professionalism.
Prof. Aning argued that such transformative leadership often breeds resistance, stating, “When you stand up for discipline and professionalism, you don’t make friends.”
His remarks come amid reports that some officers labeled Dampare a “tyrant” while celebrating his removal.
Despite the criticisms, Prof. Aning believes Dampare’s tenure laid a strong foundation for accountability and integrity within the police force.
