Justice Sulemana Gbadegbe passes away at 74

Ghana has lost a distinguished jurist, retired Supreme Court Justice Nasiru Sulemana Gbadegbe, who passed away on April 5, 2025, at age 74 after a brief illness.

His legal career, marked by unwavering commitment to judicial ethics and the rule of law, spanned over three decades.

Justice Gbadegbe served on the Supreme Court from 2009 until his retirement in December 2020. Prior to that, he was a Court of Appeal judge from 1999 to 2009, and a High Court judge from 1989 to 1999.

He notably sat on the nine-member panel in the historic 2012/2013 presidential election petition. Widely respected for his professionalism and dedication, Justice Gbadegbe was hailed by peers for upholding integrity.

Chief Justice Anin Yeboah lauded his legacy during his retirement ceremony.
