Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong has criticized the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for deviating from its core mandate by engaging in road construction.
Speaking at the National Economic Dialogue on behalf of the Structural and Policy Reform Committee, he argued that COCOBOD should focus solely on cocoa trading and leave road projects to the Department of Feeder Roads.
Comparing COCOBOD’s inefficiencies to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Dr. Sarpong highlighted procurement flaws and mismanagement affecting both institutions.
He urged the government to implement a coordinated strategy to combat illegal mining and boost cocoa and food production.
Reiterating past practices, he noted that COCOBOD previously only provided funds for road projects, rather than directly handling construction.
He called for urgent reforms to realign COCOBOD with its primary mission.
