Researchers at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have developed TechStress TS-50, a locally-made high-precision material testing machine.

Designed by the university’s Mechanical Engineering Department, the innovation aims to reduce reliance on imported machines for testing the strength of fibres, metals, and plastics.

Lead scientist Prof. Yesuenyeagbe Fiagbe explained that the team initially considered purchasing a machine but realized they had the expertise to build one.

The TechStress TS-50 boasts an accuracy of 0.0004 and features advanced sensors, a touchscreen, and data storage capabilities.

The machine is expected to support industries such as cable manufacturing and enhance science education.

Prof. Fiagbe acknowledged Research Assistant George Ansong for his significant contribution to the project.
