Karpowership Ghana partners with Navy and Forestry Commission to plant trees

Karpowership Ghana has partnered with the Ghana Navy and Forestry Commission. They launched a tree-planting exercise in the Western Region. This supports the government’s “Tree for Life” initiative.

The event occurred at the Sekondi Naval Base. Participants planted 100 trees on-site. An additional 2,900 trees are planned for the Subri Forest Reserve, an important ecological area.

This initiative shows Karpowership Ghana's commitment to environmental sustainability. It aligns with the national theme “Reclaiming degraded landscapes.”

Karpowership Ghana supports the “Tree for Life” program. This program aims to combat deforestation and restore degraded lands. It also raises awareness about environmental protection.

Since 2022, Karpowership has planted a total of 14,000 trees across Ghana.

Sandra Amarquaye, Head of Corporate Communications at Karpowership Ghana, spoke at the event. She emphasized that this initiative is more than just planting trees. "It’s about cultivating a culture of responsibility," she said.

She added, "We power homes and industries while investing in our environment." Their motto is: "Plant Today, Power Tomorrow."

Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson praised Karpowership Ghana's efforts. He highlighted the need for public-private partnerships to tackle climate issues.

He noted that planting trees is important but caring for them is crucial too. Nurturing and protecting these trees ensures their growth and survival.

Commodore Samuel Ayelazono from the Western Naval Command echoed this sentiment. He stated that environmental protection is part of their duty to the nation.

“The Navy protects Ghana’s maritime domain,” he said. “But we also care for our land and environment.” He expressed pride in partnering with Karpowership on this initiative.

Elikem Kotoko, Deputy Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission, thanked Karpowership Ghana for their timely response to environmental degradation.

He mentioned that Ghana faces critical challenges like Galamsey affecting forests. The year’s theme emphasizes restoring what has been lost and renewing commitment to nature.

The event included traditional leaders, regional officials, advocates, and school children who participated in tree planting activities. They learned about trees' roles in climate regulation and water conservation.

Karpowership Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to long-term sustainability through impactful initiatives. They stressed that tree-planting is part of a broader strategy for climate resilience and ecological balance in Ghana's green development goals.
