Karpowership partners Fisheries Commission, NADMO to train fisherfolk

Karpowership Ghana has organized a Fisherfolk Empowerment Programme. This initiative is in partnership with the Fisheries Commission and NADMO. The event took place in Sekondi on April 29, 2025. It focused on “Powering Coastal Minds: Building Resilient Fishing Communities.” Local fisherfolk attended to learn safe and responsible fishing practices.

The training lasted all day and included three sessions. Industry experts led these sessions: Emma Akosua Adu Boafo from NADMO, Mr. Joseph Yeboah, and Mr. Patrick Tewiah from the Fisheries Commission. Topics covered included Safety at Sea, Clean Fishing, and Good Fish Handling Techniques. Participants learned about emergency preparedness and life jacket use.

Sandra Amarquaye, Karpowership's Corporate Communications Manager, spoke at the event. She highlighted the importance of empowering local communities. “We recognize our responsibility to contribute to their safety and health,” she said. Mr. Joseph Yeboah also addressed participants about sustainable fishing partnerships.

Karpowership Ghana donated essential items to support the fisherfolk. These included life jackets, first aid kits, handwashing buckets, and waste bins. Paul Eshun received these items on behalf of the Ghana Inshore Fishermen Association (GIFA). He expressed gratitude for Karpowership’s generous support.

Nana Oyeadom, Chief Fisherman of Sekondi, praised the programme's importance. He noted that safety training would help save lives at sea. Felicia Otoo, a local fishmonger, shared her thoughts as well. She emphasized that hygiene training would improve their work handling fish.

Overall, the community welcomed this initiative with appreciation for Karpowership’s efforts.
