Over 70 Queen Mothers from Kejetia and Central Market visited the Mayor of Kumasi on Thursday, May 15. The delegation was led by Nana Yaa Fowaa, the Yam Market Queen. They came to congratulate Mayor Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi on his appointment. They also expressed their desire to work together for Asanteman's interests.
In response, Hon. Boadi thanked them for their visit and kind words. He promised to strengthen ties between the city administration and market leaders. Regarding Kumasi City Market Ltd. (KCML), he shared that the utility bill owed to ECG has been reduced from GHS 3 million to GHS 1.5 million. An agreement is in place to pay the remaining amount in instalments.
The Mayor urged traders to pay bills, taxes, and levies promptly. This will help develop the facility and meet obligations to the state. To improve market operations, three water tanks have been added for consistent water supply.
He mentioned that a new board will prioritize securing insurance coverage for the facility. This will protect traders and their businesses. Hon. Boadi assured the Queen Mothers that issues like blocked access routes would be addressed soon.
He emphasized that H.E. John Dramani Mahama is committed to completing Phase II of the market project. This initiative aims to reduce congestion, boost commercial activity, and restore confidence in Kumasi’s business environment.
