The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has directed the management of Kumasi City Markets Limited, operators of the Kejetia Market, to temporarily step aside amid allegations of mismanagement.
This decision follows concerns over sanitation, unpaid utility bills, and overall service delivery at the market.
A three-member interim committee has been appointed to oversee operations during the investigation. The committee is chaired by Prince Ofori-Atta, with Amoah Prince Amoako handling operations and Nana Prempeh Amankwaa leading security.
Their mandate includes stabilizing market operations while the probe unfolds.
The Kejetia Market, the largest trading center in the Ashanti Region, has long struggled with issues such as mounting electricity bill arrears, poor sanitation, and inadequate fire safety measures.
These challenges have raised concerns among traders and city authorities, prompting the ARCC’s intervention.
The committee is expected to implement immediate measures to improve market conditions while ensuring that investigations into the alleged mismanagement are carried out effectively.
