Ken Ofori-Atta’s diagnosed with cancer – OSP reveals

Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, has shared important news.

He revealed that Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister, has cancer. His legal team informed Agyebeng about this diagnosis.

During a press conference on June 2, 2025, Agyebeng said, “By a letter dated May 28, 2025, Ken Ofori-Atta informed us of his diagnosis.”

Ofori-Atta's lawyers mentioned they would communicate any changes to his schedule. However, Agyebeng noted that Ofori-Atta has not provided any medical report.

Since January 24, he has failed to produce documentation regarding his health. Agyebeng stated that Ofori-Atta had previously mentioned needing surgery in March but did not update the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) afterward.

Agyebeng expressed concern over this lack of communication. He described the letter from Ofori-Atta’s lawyers as showing bad faith. He believes it indicates that Ofori-Atta does not intend to return voluntarily for questioning.

The Special Prosecutor also rejected Ofori-Atta's request for a virtual meeting. He insisted that Ofori-Atta must appear in person at the OSP.

Agyebeng emphasized their requirement for physical attendance. He stated they would have accepted a statement earlier if they were open to it.

He added that suspects cannot dictate how investigations are conducted. The office will not tolerate such behavior in this case.

Additionally, Agyebeng announced he initiated an INTERPOL red notice process against Ofori-Atta. This could lead to international arrest and extradition.

He explained that he triggered this process shortly before the press briefing. The notice aims to locate and provisionally arrest Ofori-Atta pending extradition or surrender.

The OSP previously accused him of causing financial loss to the state through various dealings. These include issues related to the National Cathedral and contracts with other government entities.
